IMPORTANT: ACCESS TO THE GSG CAVING HUT, ELPHIN
The GSG caving hut is an important club asset, enjoyed by many club members, fellow cavers whose clubs have reciprocal rights with the GSG and also external guests whose bookings we have decided to accept. It produces a useful revenue stream which pays for its maintenance. In view of its location, it is vulnerable to unauthorised use and damage so its security is a high priority for us.
The Elphin hut access codes are changed routinely:
1. every year for GSG Members – the 2026 code is 51413
2. every three months for Guests – the 2026 March-May code is 30624
3. the access code for the shed is for GSG Members only. It is C (first)10X94
It is most important that GSG Members should NOT divulge the members’ code to any non-member.
Members may share the guest code when they take personal guests to the Hut.
Neither code should be written where it can be seen from outside the hut, such as on the white-board. Before visiting the hut, please make sure you have the members’ code for the relevant year: changes to that code will be sent to all GSG Members at the start of the year.
Please make a secure note of the access code above (e.g. in a secure area of your phone, minimising details to something like ‘hut XXXXX’ in case your phone is lost/stolen). Please do not share the access code in ‘group chats’ on social media as non-members might have been allowed temporary access to that group.
If you arrive at the hut and find you do not have the correct passcode, please contact Julian Walford (Hut Engineer), Carol Walford (Hut Bookings Secretary), or Hugh Penney (Treasurer, living in Ullapool) using phone, SMS or direct WhatsApp message, which is secure. They can provide the code.
Remember the procedures we run to make sure that people using the hut have permission to do so:
1) As a courtesy, members going to the Hut should inform the Bookings Secretary in advance where possible ().
2) Guests should always be booked in advance via the Bookings Secretary ().
The guest hut-guide (sent routinely to Guests) is available to all GSG Members on request. If you are not completely familiar with the facilities and routines at the Hut, this might be useful for you to request.

The GSG website login details changed in February and were covered in the last Newsletter: the old login was retained, except that we replaced ‘Laird’ with ‘Puffin’. If this still makes no sense to you, contact a Committee Member for the current login details.
